Brian Mehler started his design journey after receiving from his father a book about the renowned Raymond Loewy.
After studying and traveling for a year in Europe he enrolled in the highly respected Industrial Design program at California State University, Long Beach. He graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design and won a second place award for his senior thesis project, from the GE international Student Design Competition.
Over the course of the next 14 years, Brian worked for several successful toy companies, such as Educational Insights, ExploraToy, Maui Toys and Small World toys. At each company he expanded his role, his experience and responsibilities, eventually advanced to VP of Product Design and Development at Small World Toys.
In 2006, while looking for new challenges and opportunities for growth, Brian landed a position at Tropitone, a legacy 60 year old manufacturer of specialty retail and contract outdoor furniture. Brian designed and brought to market many successful groups and products. He is known for innovative, contemporary designs that break with tradition and maintain mass appeal, and for his ability to resolve functional, manufacturing and production issues through creative engineering solutions.
In 2021, Brian started his own design consultancy, Brian Mehler Design. He has had the opportunity to work with a variety of clients including Homecrest Outdoor Leisure. In partnership, they have successfully launched three new furniture groups in the contract/retail market place with a fourth group scheduled to be introduced in 2023.
Brian continues to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with his clients to achieve their goals, define their brands and create the successful products.
